Islands in Sri Lanka


Sri Lanka is an island which covered by the Indian Ocean and also such a paradise for everyone in all over the world. Most of them loved it very much because of its natural beauty. Many foreign visitors come here to visit places in Sri Lanka. There are so many well known places have there like Sigiriya, Sinharaja rainforest, Hikkaduwa coral reef, Yala National Park, Hortan plains & etc. Though there are so many places have to visit, I think you haven't any idea about the islands which is in Sri Lanka. Most of you didn't know more about that. So that I thought it is better to inform those island for your destinations.

Every people love to travel. They used to travel by using their leisure time. In current world people are busying with their jobs. They have less time to get free from their official works. So that they manage a nice small trip to spend their vacation happily and leisurely. In this journey, money is a essential thing for travellers. They always try to use less budget for their trip. It spends more maney for a foreign trip. So that those places which I given below are more suitable than foreign trips. I wish you can be able to get many more experiences during your journey time. 

Bone Island




It is located at Eastern Province coastal belt in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka. In ancient times there was a Assistant Government Agent called Mr. J.A. Bone built a bungalow in this island for spending his vacation. Because of that this island also called as "Bone".

Sober Island




This was located at Koddiyar Bay in Sri Lanka. First it had taken over by French Government and then it was transferred to the British Government by an agreement. In very first time it was used as an Army Headquarters. This island was named as a "Sober" because of the lieutenant called "S. Sober" .

In the season of second world war, it helped as a nice destination for an army which travelled for east countries. These islands consist of 175 acres. Besides there are some french tombs, ruins which related for second world war & armory which was at under the earth can be found here. In addition you can be able to see the whole view of Trincomalee Harbour.

Mannar Island




Adam's Bridge which is the well known place is located there. It separates Mannar Bay from the Palk Strait junction.  There also Talaimannar which is the highest wind blowing place in Sri Lanka. It is used by more tourists for flying kites with slipping on the sea waves. In addition it is a nice place for bird watchers.

Delft Island




Delft island is located at Palk Strait Junction. It has sands which consist of coral pieces. The Dutch Governor called "Rijicklof vam Goens" named it as a "delft" because reminded their nations. There are some ruins of ancient kovil which included for Chola reign and fallen Dutch Fortress can be found there. Flack of wild ponies which gave up at the rule of the Dutch ruler live there. In addition there is a Tower called " Queen's Tower " which built at the rule of the Dutch ruler. They used it as a tower of spying & also used as a Lighthouse.

Pigeon Island




Because of so many pigeons residence as their shelter it called as a " Pigeon Island ". It is located at Nilaveli coastal belt which is about 1Km far away from Nilaveli Beach. The best coral reef in Sri Lanka can be found near by this Pigeon Island. It was named as a Sanctuary in 1963. It is a one of the Marine National Park in Sri Lanka & it was named as National Park in 2003. If the person who love for diving, this place is a nice place & can be able to see many species of fishes & turtles. 

Baththalangunduwa Island



It is located at Kalpitiya sea belt in Sri Lanka. It has a beautiful beach around the Island. You must reach there by catamaran. It is about three hours spend for the journey & you can also see the Wilpattu National Park during this journey. Baththalangunduwa is a fishing village and it is about 3000 people live there.

Madol duwa Island 



This island is most familiar for the person who love to read Novels by Martin Wickramasinghe. Madol duwa is located at the center of the lagoon in Koggala. It is related to Galle District in Sri Lanka.
