World Famous Man Made Islands

Today, in the current world there are some artificial islands which are created by humans are erected near by the coastal belt. Port City which is erected in Sri Lanka is a nice example for that. Besides there are some artificial islands in the world. Thery are given below. These are the most beautiful & famous top 10 islands in the world. This concept was introduced for some reasons. They are; 
to enlarge the current city, create a harbour & airport, to build a merchant cities.

Palm Jumeirah, Dubai


This island is located on the Jumeirah coastal area of the emirate of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This island extends into the Persian Gulf. It made by the shape of Palm Tree. It joins with the main island by using bridges. By constructing this island they increased their coastal belt from 520Km.

The World, Dubai


These islands constructed as a shape of world map. This also located at Dubai. This is 4Km away from the coastal belt. This was made according to the idea of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. There are so many islands which large from 14000 to 42000 square metres. Each islands separated from 100 metres. They used 321 million cubic metres of sand and 31 million tons of rock for its construction.

Port Island, Japan


This is located at Kobe, Japan. There are some features can be found there. They are heliport, numerous hotels, a large conventional center, the UCC Coffee Museum, Japan's 3rd IKEA store and some parks.

Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong


This is the main airport in Hong Kong which is located at Chek Lap Kok island. This is the busiest passenger airport in the world. 

Burj Al Arab, Dubai


This is also located at Dubai and it is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. It is designed as a structure which looks like a sail of a ship. It is about 321m in height. This was built 280m away from the main island. It called as a seven star hotel because of its unique facilities.

The Venetian Islands, Florida, United States.


There are seven venetian islands which is in Miami Beach. All are connected with bridges from Miami main island to Miami Beach. One is allocated for hotels and gardens. Others are allocated for human settlements.

 The Pearl, Qutar


This island is located at Doha Beach and it is 350m away from the main island. It is spanning four million square metres.

Kansai International Airport, Japan


This is located in the middle of Osaka Bay, Japan. This is the one of main airport in Japan and it consists of two main sky ways.

It is a well known city for mask making industry which is located at South Western coastal belt of Sri Lanka. The History of Ceylon Tea 2737 BC - Tea was first discovered in China during the reign of Chinese Emperor Shen Nong. In 1824, British brought a tea plant from china to Ceylon. The botanical name for tea is " Camellia   Sinensis  " from China. In 1867, James Taylor ( Scottish by origin ) planted 19 acres of tea in the city of Kandy in Ceylon, at the Loolecondra Estate, Hewaheta as the first commercial tea plantation. The first public Colombo auction took place on 30th July 1883 under the guidance of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Thomas Lipton, a Scottish businessman and millionaire came to Sri Lanka and made business deals with James Taylor. Lipton's company purchased Ceylon tea and distributed it to Europe and the USA. Tea became Sri Lanka's main commercial export crop and the entire local economy shifted to tea.
