Flower of Avurudu - "ERABADU"




Erithrika Varigehata Gava is the scientific name for the Erabadu flower. It introduces as a Indian Coral Tree, Purple Coral Tree in English Language. In Tamil Language it introduces as a " Mullu murungei". It means "Katu murunga". Though it doesn't provide useful products like drumsticks, it also has a small pods like drumstick tree & there also less strong trunk with pins too. These are the reasons for that which we used to introduce it as a " Katu murunga". 

Erabadu leaves are most important herbal products for the worm who lives in a human body. 

There are so many sharp pins at the trunk & the branches of the Erabadu Tree. Besides this one there also have a another type of Erabadu which called as a " Yak Erabadu". It has a many more pins than Erabadu tree.

The hight of the trink is about 10-20 ft. & grey in a colour. Erabadu leaf creates by joining three small leaves in a shape of "Bo leaf". Sprout has some fluffs & it used for canker and rashes.

At the month of February, Erabadu leaves start to fell down. At the end of March & beginning of April it starts to bloom the bunches of flowers like a red carpet. Thought Erabadu trunk isn't strong enough but it helps human to erect the fence. Because of the sharp pins of Erabadu tree is more suitable for the garden & cropland which helps to protect from the enemies. 

All the Erabadu products like roots, leaves, flowers, pods & barks have a herbal value in Avurvedic Medicine. Not only this it also used as a shady tree at the tea & coffee estates. It protects the crops from the huge sunlight. Erabadu trees grow all over the country of Sri Lanka. Erabadu flower is the National flower in Venezuela at trujillo states. In addition Erabadu flower shows the Avurudu season for Sri Lankan people. In past,It is the main environmental reason for Sri Lanka people. But today it becomes a rare one with the Environmental pollution.
