The History of Ceylon Tea 2737 BC - Tea was first discovered in China during the reign of Chinese Emperor Shen Nong. In 1824, British brought a tea plant from china to Ceylon. The botanical name for tea is " Camellia   Sinensis  " from China. In 1867, James Taylor ( Scottish by origin ) planted 19 acres of tea in the city of Kandy in Ceylon, at the Loolecondra Estate, Hewaheta as the first commercial tea plantation. The first public Colombo auction took place on 30th July 1883 under the guidance of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Thomas Lipton, a Scottish businessman and millionaire came to Sri Lanka and made business deals with James Taylor. Lipton's company purchased Ceylon tea and distributed it to Europe and the USA. Tea became Sri Lanka's main commercial export crop and the entire local economy shifted to tea. When I am talking about Traditional Masks, it is better to tell you something about Ambalangoda. It is a well known city for mask making industry which is located at South Western coastal belt of Sri Lanka. It is really amazing art & culture.  There was a ancient story behind the mask making industry. Today, masks are used for various rituals & dance performances. According to ancient believes, it also use to cure sicknesses.  In mask making industry they used " Rukkattana " and " Diyakandura " as a timber because it must be a light and durable timber. Those trees have that qualities. So that they selected it for their crafts. After making their masks they uses decorative methods for makes its beauty. They used nice colours for that. The Mythical Mountain Of Galle

Rumassala Mountain   Rumassala is a hilly peninsula which lies between Unawatuna beach & Magalle bay. Rumassala, known to some as Buona Vista( pleasant view), is the subject of many legends. It features in the Ramayana, as the home of the beautiful Queen Sita, hidden in the jungle nearby. According to the Ramayana,during the battle between the Indian King Rama & Ravana of Sri Lanka, the monkey God, Hanuman was sent to the Himalayas to fetch a medicinal plant for the wounded Lakshman( Rama's brother). The herbs were namely Mritasanjeevani, Bidhalayakarani, Suvarnakarani & Sandhani. But he was unable to find the plant, so he removed a plant of the Himalayan Mountain on which the plant was said to grow. He dropped a chunk at Unawatuna ("here it fell") to from the Rumassala headland.
